Nigeria’s D’Tigress has qualified for the women’s basketball event of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Despite losing 100 – 46 to the USA in their second game at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Antwerp, Belgium, D’Tigress still picked one of the tickets for the games. Their qualification was sealed after Senegal’s 97-66 defeat to Belgium which takes them out of contention. Belgium and Nigeria have now qualified for the Olympics while the US already qualified as World Champions. 

Sprinter, Tobi Amusan has set a new African women’s indoor record in 60 metres after running 7.75 seconds at the New Balance Indoor Gand Prix in Boston. This performance in Boston replaces the previous record of 7.77 seconds set in Kazakhstan at the Astana Indoor Meet in January when she surpassed the record set by compatriot Gloria Alozie 7.82 seconds set in 1999.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has put all in place for its second Abuja International Marathon slated for 16th December 2023. According to the event organizers, athletes from the 15 ECOWAS member states will compete with elite runners from Kenya, Ethiopia, China, Korea, and others for a total prize money of $70,000. The Director of Youth and Sports Development at ECOWAS, Ambassador Francis Njoaguani, during a brief on Friday in the nation's capital, stated that the race goes beyond sports and its health benefits, aiming to create awareness about ECOWAS in Nigeria and promote sports for integration in the West Africa sub-region.

According to South Africa’s correctional services department on Friday, 24th November 2023, South Africa’s parole board granted early release to Oscar Pistorius, after deeming him fit for social reintegration.

Famous former Basketball star Magic Johnson has been declared a billionaire by Forbes, making him only the fourth athlete to join the exclusive club. He is joining the likes of Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Tiger Woods in the club. According to Forbes, Magic has now an estimated net worth of about $1.2 billion after being an investor in a combination of businesses in which he has funded or has participated as an investor.
