Nigerian World champion, Tobi Amusan has defended her title by winning the gold medal in the women's 100m hurdles at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Amusan retained her win by running a Games record of 12.30 secs setting another record as well, and becoming the first world champion to win gold and the first Nigerian athlete to do the same at the Alexender Stadium on 7th August 2022.

Ese Brume has sealed a place in the final of the Long Jump event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Brume hit the automatic qualification mark, leaping a distance of 6.81m (+0.3) on her second attempt.  World champion Oluwatobiloba Amusan posted the fastest time in Round 1 Heat of the Women’s 100m Hurdles at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which was concluded this morning.

Nigeria, on Saturday, won its first medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK. Adijat Adenike Olarinoye recorded a total of 203kg in the women’s 55kg weightlifting event to win Nigeria’s first gold medal in the games. Before winning the medal, Olarinoye had set two records in 10 minutes, lifting 90kg and 92kg in the Snatch category of women’s 55kg Weightlifting event.

The Federal Government (FG) has set up an Interim Management Committee to oversee Nigerian basketball amidst the lingering leadership crisis in the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF). This was disclosed on Monday in a statement signed by the Director, Press Relations of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mohammed Manga.
