The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has put all in place for its second Abuja International Marathon slated for 16th December 2023. According to the event organizers, athletes from the 15 ECOWAS member states will compete with elite runners from Kenya, Ethiopia, China, Korea, and others for a total prize money of $70,000. The Director of Youth and Sports Development at ECOWAS, Ambassador Francis Njoaguani, during a brief on Friday in the nation's capital, stated that the race goes beyond sports and its health benefits, aiming to create awareness about ECOWAS in Nigeria and promote sports for integration in the West Africa sub-region.

Tobi Amusan, the Nigerian 100m hurdles world record holder, has been dethroned as World champion at the ongoing World Championships in Budapest on Wednesday. Surprisingly, the race was won by Jamaican Danielle Williams in 12.43s, even though she was widely seen as an outsider going into Thursday’s final. Jasmine Camacho-Quinn finished second in 12.44s for Silver, with Keni Harrison taking the Bronze in 12.46s and USA Kendra Harrison came third in 12.46s while the World champion came 6th in 12.62s in her third consecutive final.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has cleared Tobi Amusan of an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) and lifted the suspension placed on her last month for whereabouts failures. This was made known in a statement issued on Thursday by the World Athletics body which reads, “A panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of 3 whereabouts failures within a 12-month period.”
