The Federal Government (FG) has set up an Interim Management Committee to oversee Nigerian basketball amidst the lingering leadership crisis in the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF). This was disclosed on Monday in a statement signed by the Director, Press Relations of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mohammed Manga.
The statement reads in part, “Following the recent directives of President Muhammadu Buhari on the state of basketball in the country and its withdrawal from all international basketball competitions for the next two years, the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has announced the members of the Interim Management Committee to oversee the development of sport in Nigeria.
“The Committee is to draw up programs that will revamp basketball from the grassroots in Nigeria, revive its moribund domestic leagues and attract corporate sponsors for the development of the game”.
Members of the committee include Dr. Henry Nzekwu, Mr. Frank Jitubhoh, Mr. Udon Humapwa, Prof Adamu Ahmed, Aderemi Adewunmi, Peter Nelson, Oluchi Nzekwe, Sani Adio, Group Captain Rahinatu Garba, and a Zenith bank representative.
