A notice regarding the general election of 2027 has been released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). As a result, the presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on February 20, 2027, for governorship, while the state assembly elections will take place on March 6, 2027. Prof. Joash Amupitan, the commission's chairman, said this at a press conference in Abuja on Friday. On February 4, INEC revealed that it has finalized the election schedule and operations, despite the apparent delay in the National Assembly's adoption of the modified Electoral Act.
The electoral umpire acknowledged that certain things in the calendar of operations might change by the time the parliamentarians enact the electoral act, even though it stated that it had submitted its views to the National Assembly.
In order to reduce voter anxiety and prevent logistical nightmares for the commission and other stakeholders, INEC, led by Professor Mahmood Yakubu, had previously set the dates of Nigeria's general elections for the ensuing forty years.
