The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has explained why there is serious fuel scarcity in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, via a statement on the company’s X handle, disclosed that the scarcity was as a result of a hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels.
He added that the company is working round the clock with all stakeholders to resolve the situation and restore normalcy in the operations.
The statement reads: “The NNPC Ltd. wishes to state that the tightness in fuel supply and distribution witnessed in some parts of Lagos and the FCT is a result of a hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels.
“The Company further states that it is working round the clock with all stakeholders to resolve the situation and restore normalcy in the operations.”
There is currently a severe shortage of fuel in Abuja, Lagos, and surrounding areas, leading to long queues and disrupting commercial activities. This has also caused a significant increase in fuel prices.
Some fuel stations, including those operated by NNPCL, have closed. Many people believe that the shortage is due to the planned nationwide protest scheduled to start on Thursday, August 1, while others fear an imminent rise in petrol prices.
However, NNPCL has reassured Nigerians that none of these issues are the cause of the shortage. The company is working with all stakeholders to resolve the situation and restore normal operations.
