Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, better known as Davido, electrified the audience at the cocktail event celebrating the United Bank for Africa's 75th anniversary, held during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The Skelewu star delivered a captivating performance, showcasing a selection of his hit singles, including ‘Aye,’ ‘Skelewu,’ and ‘Risky.’ Clips shared on social media captured the crowd’s infectious energy as they danced and sang along to his vibrant set.
Prominent figures in attendance included Vice President Kashim Shettima and Tony Elumelu, founder of UBA Bank, who joined others at UNGA to discuss the future of Africa.
Before the event, Davido took to social media to express his excitement about being in New York for the first time, stating, “Touch down New York City for the @UN General Assembly. My first time attending should be interesting.” He also announced his performance at the event, encouraging fans to join him: “Also performing tonight at one of the events! Catch me if you can!”
Davido's performance at the UNGA follows a significant moment for another Nigerian icon, DJ Cuppy, who recently made history by hosting an opening session at the assembly. During her keynote address, Cuppy emphasized the importance of engaging young people in meaningful discussions and highlighted her commitment to quality education, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4). Following her session, she also graced the audience with a musical performance, further showcasing the talents of Nigerian artists on a global stage.
