Shipping lines and their agencies have been instructed by the Nigerian Shippers' Council (NSC) to immediately halt the implementation of newly authorized rates. The management of the council issued a notification containing the directive, which was made accessible to the Lagos press on Friday. According to the statement, the order came after continuing discussions over the recently authorized charges with important parties. The council claims that the interactions addressed worries over the structure, timing, and possible effects of the levies on logistical operations and port users.
It further stated that the suspension would continue until discussions were completed and a thorough regulatory review was completed. It cautioned that any departure would be considered a violation of the law and result in penalties.
The NSC reiterated its dedication to efficient regulation, safeguarding the interests of cargo, and advancing a fair and functional marine transportation system. All operators were advised to guarantee prompt and stringent compliance.
