Singer Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington Akpi, has been summoned by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for questioning regarding allegations of raping a minor at a hotel in Lagos. The agency’s invitation follows a formal notification from the Lagos State Government about the alleged crime. This action comes in the wake of a viral video in which Darlington seemingly confessed to the alleged crime during an Instagram Live session. The footage shows the musician appearing to admit to having sexual relations with an underage girl, igniting widespread public outrage.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) confirmed the incident in a statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
In response, NAPTIP issued a letter dated May 28, 2025, signed by Ngamaraju Titus Mangzha, the agency’s Head of Cybercrime Response Team, summoning the singer to appear at its Abuja office on Friday for questioning.
The letter, which the agency posted on its Facebook page, states: “We hereby formally invite you to appear before the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in connection with certain video materials that recently surfaced online, including but not limited to a specific Instagram video in which you allegedly admitted to engaging in sexual acts with an underage girl.”
"Additional archived videos, now in circulation, similarly contain admissions and degrading commentary concerning minors.
"These actions, if substantiated, constitute offences under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Adminstration Act (TIPPEA) 2015; Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 20215.
"You are hereby invited to appear in person for an interview as regards the alleged actions on Friday 30th May, 2025 by 9 a.m at the NAPTIP Headquarters: 2028 Dalaba Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, FCT.
"Kindly bring along any legal representation or documents you may consider relevant. Please be informed that your cooperation is critical to ensuring a fair and thorough inquiry into the matter. Failure to honour this invitation may result in further legal action."
