An elder statesman who is also member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bode George, says the main opposition party has been resurrected contrary to naysayers who predicted the party was dead. George made these remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, immediately after the party held its crucial National Executive Committee, NEC, to resolve the crisis rocking the PDP yesterday.
He said, “We have already done the resurrection today. An iroko tree doesn’t die, this party is an iroko tree because the tap root is so deep”.
Although he acknowledged that some politicians are being selfish, pointing that they have derailed from the dreams of the party’s founding fathers.
“We have learnt a lesson and that lesson was the beginning of the meeting yesterday and today. What it reminded me was the peak of our existence as a political party. I left the chambers feeling reinvigorated.
“The PDP NEC meeting was the realisation of the failures and things that we have done. This party is not a party for one individual, no individual can claim ownership of this party,” he added.
Bode George explained that the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, have called on PDP members to desist from selfishness attitude instead, they should serve with selflessness.
However, when asked on whether he was mulling dumping the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, the octogenarian passionately said no while faulting the policies of President Bola Tinubu and decried the hardship the country is currently facing in the hand of APC as a result of bad leadership.
According to him, the APC did not win the 2023 presidential election, arguing that the electoral process was floored and that was what the APC used to rig itself to power.
