The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to immediately develop funding plans for the effective management of HIV/AIDS in the country.
The call was made against the backdrop of increasing deaths from the disease.

In a motion moved in Abuja during plenary on Tuesday, on the “need to evaluate the effect of withdrawal of HIV funding by international donors.” Rep Sergius Ogun (Edo-PDP), stated that the World Health Organisation ranks Nigeria as having the second highest HIV epidemic in the world, after South Africa.
Ogun revealed that only 51 per cent of those living with the disease in have access to antiretroviral treatment as a result of over-dependant on international donors.
Following a unanimous voice vote, the House mandated its Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Control to collaborate with relevant agencies in the health sector to find ways for effective control of HIV.
