The World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Office for Africa has disclosed that there are currently 19 potential COVID-19 vaccines at the clinical trial phase. In a statement via their official twitter, the health body said, "South Africa is the first country on the continent to start a clinical trial with the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg testing a vaccine developed by the Oxford Jenner Institute in the United Kingdom. "The South African Ox1Cov-19 Vaccine VIDA-Trial is expected to involve 2000 volunteers aged 18 to 65 years and include some people living with HIV.

The Federal Government on Thursday in Abuja, launched a diagnostic kit, RNASwift, for the identification of coronavirus’ causal agent. The acting Director-General of the National Biotechnology Development Agency, prof Alex Akpa, whose agency produced the kit informed that the kit would enable Nigeria to test five million farmers and laborers to ensure that the food security chain was not compromised by COVID-19.

Nigeria has on Tuesday recorded 503 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, totaling the country's confirmed cases of Coronavirus to 29,879 with 15 new deaths, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said. This brings total number of death in the country to 669.

The Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola has ordered the total lockdown of four of the local government areas of the state for one week. The lockdown is expected to commence on Tuesday, July 7, in the named local government area: Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakumosa East, and Atakumosa West for seven days in the first instance. The decision was the fallout of the meeting between the government and the stakeholders from the area.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has revealed it has confirmed another 626 new cases of the coronavirus in Nigeria pushing the total confirmed cases now to 27,110 in the country.
Unfortunately, thirteen cases of fatalities were also recorded yesterday bringing the total cases of fatalities to 616.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says it has recorded an additional 490 fresh cases of coronavirus in the country, bringing a toll to 24,567. Accordingly, seven persons lost their lives to the pandemic on Sunday, bringing the number of deaths by the virus to 565 in the country. Though there was a decline in the number of cases reported on Sunday which is 490 when compared with the previous day Saturday (770).
