Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu the wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to rebuild the health care sector in Nigeria. The first lady, while recently addressing an audience at the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the National hospital, Abuja, stressed the relevance to investing in the health of Nigerians thereby calling on stakeholders to reflect on, and deliver positively to the course. She maintained the fact that every Nigerian deserves quality health care, regardless of their background or circumstances.
“As we look to the future, I urge the members of staff and management of this great hospital to remain resilient and strive for excellence so that you can continue to positively impact the lives of many that seek qualitative medical care.”
“The establishment of this facility would not have been possible without the foresight of the former First Lady, Hajia Maryam Abacha, whose vision under her National Programme, the Family Support Programme (FSP) birthed the idea that led to the establishment of a national hospital for Women and Children. The mandate of the Hospital was later changed in 1999 to serve as an apex referral Hospital in Nigeria, to cater for all and was renamed the National Hospital, Abuja.
“In the spirit of the anniversary, therefore, the Radiotherapy Centre will be named Mariam Abacha Radiotherapy Centre,” she added.
President Tinubu’s agenda emphasizes much on optimal health care of every Nigerian, which is currently being addressed to alleviate the suffering of average add common man to have easy access to health care delivery.
Federal Government’s commitment to rebuild health care system promises to provide modern technology that will assist to diagnose terminal diseases that will eventually reduce drastically the health tourism, being embarked by the rich, seeking health abroad hence the revenue saved by reducing the influx of Nigeria exploring health care abroad will enhance the GDP of Nigerian economy.
The private sector and well-meaning Nigerians are expected to support and encourage the Federal Government by providing manpower, expertise and innovative ideas towards resuscitating health sector for an optimal health care of every Nigerian.
The state Government and local government chairmen of 774 local government council are expected to emulate the laudable objective of the Federal Government, so that every Nigerians will ensure the availability of adequate health care delivery to the grassroots because health is wealth and any nation without sound health is tantamount to untimely death.
