Usani Uguru Usani, the national vice-chairman (south-south) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has been suspended by the Cross River chapter due to allegations of insubordination and anti-party activities.
Usani served as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs from November 2015 to May 2019.
The party stated that the decision was made following a state working committee (SWC) meeting on Wednesday, October 15.
In a statement issued on Friday, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) State Publicity Secretary, James Otudor, announced that Dr. Usani had been suspended for actions deemed contrary to the party’s constitution and unity across the South-South region.
According to Otudor, the State Working Committee, after considering petitions and credible reports from stakeholders, found that Dr. Usani had recently engaged in anti-party activities, defied constituted authorities, and carried out actions detrimental to the party’s image, cohesion, and electoral chances. The suspension, he said, takes immediate effect pending the conclusion of investigations and disciplinary proceedings by the relevant party organs.
The committee also criticized the appointment of Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, noting that the state leadership was not consulted. It is alleged that Waya’s attitude and loyalty appear misaligned with the unity and development of the ADC in Cross River State. Consequently, it urged the national leadership to reconsider her appointment and replace her with a competent, credible, and media-savvy representative from Cross River who has demonstrated a genuine commitment to the party’s ideals and progress.
On the issue of coalition membership and party loyalty, the ADC expressed concern that some individuals who had shown interest in joining the party months earlier had yet to formalize their membership. While acknowledging that party membership is an ongoing process, the committee stated that it would not tolerate dual membership or permit its platform to be used for conflicting partisan interests. It therefore directed all coalition leaders and prospective members to complete their ward-level registration within seven days or risk exclusion from leadership and decision-making activities.
Reaffirming its loyalty to the national leadership, the state chapter pledged to remain united, focused, and dedicated to offering credible and people-oriented leadership in Cross River and the South-South region.
“We urge all members to remain calm, law-abiding, and steadfast as the party’s internal processes for discipline, justice, and accountability take their course,” Otudor added.
