Ajax 22-year-old Midfielder, Abdelhak Nouri popularly called 'Appie' has awoken from a coma after collapsing on the pitch two years and nine months ago.
Appie sustained severe and permanent brain damage after suffering a cardiac arrhythmia attack in a pre-season friendly with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in July 2017.
The 22 year-old although woke up in 2018 but was unable to move or communicate for himself. But as at the time of reporting, he is now recovering in a house built especially for him, where he 'sleeps, eats, frowns and burps but is very dependent,' according to Dutch website AD.
The Dutch midfielder rose through the youth ranks at the Johan Cruyff ArenA before graduating to the senior squad in 2015. He went on to take in nine competitive first-team appearances for Ajax, before his career was cruelly cut short during the club's pre-season tour of the Austrian Alps in July 2017.
