The Super Eagle of Nigeria scored the first goal within the first half time of the match beating Egypt's 1- 0 win in their opening match in the African Cup of Nation match played at Garoua stadium on Tuesday. Kelechi Ehenacho dribble his way scoring the pharaoh’s making it a Nigeria opening goal on the third day when the AFCON commenced. Nigeria also made its four wins in nine AFCON matches against Egypt.
The Super Eagle started on a good note with a direct running on the wings, especially the nontiring Moses Simon on the left wing.
Despite the pitch denying both teams on the ball, Nigeria did well and Simon could only shit the side netting when played through on goal.
Coach Augustin Eguavoen’s side deservedly went ahead on 30 minutes through Iheanacho. The self-styled Senioman Kelz controlled Aribo’s header before landing a half-volley into the left top corner for the Egyptians for his 11th international goal.
Iheanacho joined by Awoniyi in the last lap of the game try to link up on different attempts, but the goalkeeper, El Shenawy struggled to bounce back the attack before the eagle went into the break.
Nigerian Eagles kick-started the second half in a style with Simon shooting wide before Awoniyi’s header was tipped onto the bar bouncing back the ball in an effort for the eagles to score the second goal.
Egyptians made two substitutions pushing the match to an end-to-end encounter, swallowing Salah in the pitch and blocked by Maduaka Okoye.
The Eagle's backline however stifled Carlos Quiroz’s men taking all the three points, moving to the top of Group D while Egypt sinks to the bottom.
Nigeria will clash with Sudan in their second game on Saturday 15 January at the same stadium.
