Andrey Santos has expressed his excitement after completing a £50 million transfer to Manchester United from Chelsea, describing the move as a dream opportunity in his football career. The deal, officially confirmed on Monday, will see Manchester United pay an initial £48 million fee for the Brazilian midfielder, with a further £2 million potentially available through performance-related add-ons. Chelsea have also secured a 10 per cent sell-on clause as part of the agreement.
Santos, 22, joined Chelsea from Brazilian side Vasco da Gama in 2023 but struggled to establish himself as a regular first-team player at Stamford Bridge. During his time with the club, he had loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg before sealing his move to Old Trafford.
Reacting to his transfer, Santos said he was honoured to join a club with such a rich history and revealed his excitement about following in the footsteps of legendary Manchester United players.
“Everything about Manchester United is special; it is an incredible feeling to join a club that some of my biggest idols have represented,” he said.
The midfielder also highlighted his eagerness to work under manager Michael Carrick, believing the former United captain can play a key role in his development.
“As a midfielder, I am really excited to have the opportunity to learn from Michael Carrick. He is the perfect coach to help me take the next step in my career and push to achieve my dreams,” Santos added.
Santos further praised the club’s ambitions and the atmosphere surrounding the team, insisting he is ready to contribute to United’s pursuit of major honours.
“Everybody told me about how ambitious the club is and the amazing environment that has been created here. I know just how strong the squad is and I cannot wait to fight together to compete for the biggest trophies,” he said.
