Manchester United has advanced to the FA Cup final after scraping through via spot kicks against Championship side Coventry City. The second FA Cup semi-final between Coventry City and Manchester United on Sunday evening was incredibly dramatic, as it went into extra time. Manchester United appeared to be in control of the match with a convincing 3-0 lead in the second half, but Coventry City made an impressive comeback, scoring three goals to level the score. Despite this, Manchester United emerged victorious after winning the penalty shootout.
The Red Devils were heavy favorites to progress and led 2-0 at the interval courtesy of goals from Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire. Erik ten Hag’s men then looked to have moved out of sight just before the hour when Bruno Fernandes’ deflected shot flew in at the near post.
However, Ellis Simms gave the Sky Blues faithful something to cheer with a superb goal 19 minutes from time before O’Hare’s deflected shot set up a barnstorming finale.
United were hanging on but were forced to extra time when Haji Wright converted a dramatic stoppage-time penalty.
Simms almost won it for the Sky Blues four minutes from the end of extra time but his shot somehow failed to bounce in off the bar while Torp’s strike fell victim to VAR.
Bradley Collins saved Casemiro’s first kick but Andre Onana came up with the goods for Man Utd. He kept out O’Hare’s effort then saw Ben Sheaf ping one over the top as Rasmus Hojlund netted the winning penalty.
