Sadio Mane has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for August. The Liverpool forward, who just returned from a lengthy injury spell to join his teammates during the preseason, defeated his teammate, Mohammed Salah as well as Alvaro Morata, Romelu Lukaku, Henry Mkhitaryan and Jonas Lossl to win the award.

Mane scored three goals in three matches for his side in August to rekindle the hope of the fans to return to winning ways this season.

Marca reports that Mane has become the first Senegalese player to be named the Player of the Month in the Premier League and the first Liverpool player since Steven Gerard and Luis Suarez shared the award over three years ago.

Mane is expected to go into the match against Manchester City in high spirit and assist his side snatch points from Guardiola's team on Saturday.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool have seven points from three games.
