The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are still licking the wounds of the humiliating 4-0 defeat handed them on Friday by the Super Eagles of Nigeria. In a widely acclaimed commanding performance, the Nigeria national team extended its dominance over their West African neighbors, who they have now beaten 11 times in 21 meetings, with Cameroon winning only 4 times.
At the post match conference following the loss in Uyo, head coach of the Cameroonian side, Hugo Broos, admitted that the Eagles were way too superior for his lads.
“Your team made us feel inferior. They were good at one on one situations and restricted us to just one chance all through the game. The better side actually won, no doubt about it.”
On his team’s chance to still qualify for the world cup in Russia, Broos conceded “We don’t have a chance to reach the World Cup. Russia 2018 won’t happen for us.
“The second leg is no longer important,” he said.
Nigeria will need one more win and at least a point from its remaining 3 matches to confirm participation in Russia.
A win on Monday in the second leg away against a demoralized Cameroon may be enough though if results involving other teams in the group – Algeria and Zambia – go the Eagles’ way.
