Argentina goalkeeper that was between the woodwork in the friendly match against the Super Eagles, Austin Marchesin has been dropped by manager Jorge Sampaoli from participating in the friendly matches against Italy and Spain because he conceded four goals against Nigeria late last year.
Although the manager and some of his teammates blamed him for his poor performance against the Eagles, Marchesin believes that no other shot stopper would have prevented the goals scored by Kelechi Ihenacho, Alex Iwobi and Brian Idowu.
Speaking to Closs Continental, the keeper said ;
"I am not stupid and I know that Nigeria’s match was not a normal game, but I know how the goals were, I do not think any other goalkeeper could stop those balls. It’s my dream to play at the World Cup and I still do not consider myself off the list. I play every weekend; I think I’m doing things well to continue in the national team. I do not think that this match should be the only parameter to decide whether or not you can be in the Albiceleste.”
Meanwhile, three Keepers have been called up by Jorges Sampaoli for both friendlies. They include Sergio Romero (Manchester United), Wilfredo Caballero (Chelsea) and Nahuel Guzmán (Tigres UANL).
