Grigor Dimitrov won his maiden Masters title with a 6-3, 7-5 win v Nick Kyrgios in the Cincinnati open on Sunday. The 26-year-old, who is the world No 11, claimed his third title of the season. Both men were in their first Masters final and they played some impressive tennis. Paris - Rafael Nadal was confirmed as the world number one for the first time in three years in the latest ATP rankings released on Monday. The Spaniard, who learned he was going to reclaim the ATP summit a week ago, last topped the men's charts in July 2014.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) yesterday was given a wildcard into the main draw of the US Open – last major of the season to former world number one, Maria Sharapova. The Russian five-time was granted the wildcard into her first time since her two-year doping ban for testing positive for heart disease drug meldonium at the 2016 Australian Open.

Twenty-year old German Alexander Zverev beat Roger Federer 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday in Montreal, Canada to take the Rogers Cup final. The 20-year-old Zverev won last week in Washington and has five titles this season, including in two ATP Masters 1000 events. He’s the youngest winner here since Novak Djokovic beat Federer in 2007 final.

Top seeded, Rafael Nadal has been denied a chance at the world number one spot by 18-year-old Canadian, Denis Shapovalov, in the third round of the Montreal Rogers cup.

Andy Murray is set to miss the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati due to reported hip injury. The world number 1 made this known on Wednesday in a post on his Facebook wall.
