Following the controversial suspension of former governor Abdullahi Ganduje from the All Progressive Congress, APC, party by his ward executive on Monday, Kano State High Court has affirmed the suspension of the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The court, while granting an exparte order also restrained Ganduje from further parading himself as a member of the party.
Ahead of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a group within the party called ‘loyalty group’ are insisting that NEC should prevail on the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to discard his presidential ambition ahead of 2027 to enable the party move ahead. Addressing a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the National Chairman of the “PDP100% Loyalty”, Mr. Dennis Shima (JP), in his demand has also called party caucus to slam suspension against the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike for anti party activities.
The state working committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano has nullified the suspension of Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the party. They also suspended ward party leaders who earlier suspended Ganduje. The APC executives in Dawakin ward under Tofa LGA of Kano had on Monday suspended Ganduje over the allegations of corruption leveled against him. Abdullahi Abbas, chairman of the APC in Kano, alleged that the ward executives who suspended Ganduje were caught in anti-party activities, adding that they are working with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Abbas said the ward executives have now been suspended for six months.
The World Health Organization is likely to issue a wider warning about contaminated Johnson and Johnson-made children's cough syrup found in Nigeria last week, it said in an email. On Wednesday last week during a routine test, Nigeria's regulator recalled a batch of Benylin syrup, having found a high level of diethylene glycol in the product. Diethylene glycol is toxic to humans when consumed and can result in acute kidney failure, although there have been no reports of harm in the latest incident. The contaminant, alongside another closely related toxin, has been linked to the deaths of more than 300 children in Gambia, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, and Cameroon since 2022. However, there is no evidence that these incidents are linked to the new recalls.
In an effort to address the rising number of cancer cases in Nigeria, the Federal Government (FG) has announced plans to launch a comprehensive national cancer registry and data system. This was revealed by the Director-General of the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), Dr. Usman Aliyu during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Saturday. He said a centralized cancer registry is necessary, adding that lack of funding from government and private health centres has impeded its establishment.

The world Bank report on macro poverty Outlook for Nigeria presented for April 2024 has revealed that raising inflation, weak earning have thrown 10 million more Nigerians into abject poverty in 2023. The reported revealed that “Nominal earnings have not kept up with inflation, pushing another 10 million Nigerians into poverty in 2023” saying that a grim reality where earnings have drastically lagged behind, pushing inflation upwards, wan rendering the economic growth of the country insufficient to improve the living standard of its citizenry.

The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) commenced the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Friday with minimal glitches recorded, however, candidates who experienced the glitches were told to remain calm as they would be rescheduled.
