Earlier today, Vigil 360 reported the arraignment of the celebrity barman, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest over issues concerning naira abuse, Mr Okechukwu however pleaded not guilty to the three count charges slammed against him. Justice Kehinde Ogundare of the Federal High Court in Lagos, on Wednesday, granted bail to a businessman and socialite, facing an allegation of abusing the Naira. The judge ordered him to produce two sureties in like sum who must be gainfully employed with the federal or state government and not less than grade level 16.
The sureties are to have landed property and the document must be verified by the court. Cubana Chief Priest is also to submit his travel passport to the custody of the court.

Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has arrived at the Federal High Court before Justice Kehinde Ogundare, in Lagos, on17th April 2024 for arraignment for allegedly abusing the Naira notes. Cubana Chief Priest pleaded not guilty to three charges filed against him by the EFCC at the court. His lawyer is currently arguing his bail application, urging the court to admit him to bail in liberal terms. Recall the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had on 16th April filed a three-count charge against a popular nightlife business for allegedly spraying and tempering with the naira at a social event contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The Celebrity businessman was alleged to have sprayed the Naira notes at a social function on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel in Lagos.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC disclosed to the public that the agency cannot prosecute old cases of naira abuse, adding that the Special Task Force against Naira Abuse and Dollarisation of the Economy was established on February 7, 2024. According to a statement released by Dele Oyewale, the commission's Head of Media & Publicity, “Increasingly, members of the public are drawing the attention of the Commission to video recordings of abuse of the Naira by Nigerians from all walks of life.

The Oyo State Police Command issued a statement that joint security task force arrested 20 suspected Yoruba nation agitators who invaded the Oyo State Government Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan, the capital of the state around 0900am on Saturday. The statement reads in part, “The suspects, who were on military camouflages came heavily armed in an unregistered silver-coloured Nisssan Urban bus containing cutlasses, pump action rifles, cartridges, assorted charms and Oodua nation agitation flag.

A Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) employee, Mr Monday Osazuwa, on Friday, told an Ikeja Special Offences Court how the former apex bank governor, Godwin Emefiele, on different occasions, directed him to collect three million dollars cash in tranches. Osasuwa, while being led in evidence by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) counsel, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), said he was a dispatch rider in Zenith Bank in 2001 before he joined the CBN in 2014.

A High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, has granted bail to former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, in the sum of N50 million 26-count charges bordering on abuse of office.
