The immediate past Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, is presently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to sources at the anti-graft agency, the former Governor is currently being grilled by a crack team of operatives at the headquarters of the EFCC in Jabi Abuja over alleged diversion of N9 billion by his administration. Ahmed was said to have arrived at the EFCC headquarters about 10 am on Monday, in response to the invitation extended to him by the agency.

The Imo State Police Command, yesterday said that it arrested five suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) linked to the killing of a police Sergeant, Joseph Nwaka, Department of operation of the command. This is contained in a release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, on Saturday wherein it was disclosed to newsmen in Owerri that their arrest came after a gun battle with the security operatives at Amanato in Isu local government area of Imo. The police added that the bursting of their camp was a result of the arrest of one of their members Onyekachi Mmadufor, a native of Umuduruekwe Isu LGA, who aided the police with the information in the arrest of others. Ikeokwu also said items recovered from the suspects include, one AK 47 rifle with breech no 56-258115, 15 Rounds of live ammunition, four locally fabricated weapons, six live cartridges, and a large quantity of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abia State has lost part of its office at Amaekpu in Ohafia Local Government Area of the state to unknown assailants who damaged a large portion of the office. The midnight attack took place at 3 am on Tuesday, NDLEA Abia commander, Dele Akingbade confirmed to NAN in Umuahia. Mr. Akingbade blamed the attack on hoodlums, adding that only a section of the office complex was set ablaze. However, he noted that the office was not razed down, no life was lost and only minimal damage was done to the building. “The attackers came in around 3 am Tuesday morning, looking for seized drugs, ammunition, and intention to free suspects in NDLEA custody,” he said.

There was apprehension in Onitsha commercial city of Anambra State, on Sunday after a lorry, Mercedes 911 model fell and spilled its content of cartons of live ammunition on the road along Awka Road area of the town. The discovery of the truck attracted heavy security presence who besieged the area and Shoprite axis of the city to scare away perceived invaders and maintain calm. A source at the scene who sought anonymity revealed that some boys around the area scooped some of the ammunition and ran away before security operatives arrived at the scene. It was gathered that the conductor of the said truck fled the scene after the incident, although another source revealed that the driver was arrested by the police.

The remaining 27 students abducted from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka in Kaduna State have reportedly regained their freedom after they spent about 54 days in captivity. Mr. Abdullahi Usman, the Chairman of the Parents’ Committee, confirmed the release of the students by bandits on Wednesday in Kaduna. Usman, who said the news was “a big relief to parents”, who have been “emotionally traumatised” since the incident took place, explained that the victims were released some minutes past 4 pm around the Kidanda area in Giwa Local Government Area of the state, and were on their way back to the state capital.
