After being released from prison, Abubakar Malami, a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, stated he had no remorse about his activities while in government. Along with his wife, Bashir Asabe, and son, Abdulaziz, Malami is charged with 16 counts of alleged money laundering. Malami has stated that he plans to forcefully defend himself against the accusations.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission brought accusations against them, and each of them entered a not guilty plea.
Shortly after his initial release from Kuje Prison, the former minister was arrested again on January 19 by Department of State Services agents.
He claimed on January 21 that the DSS was preventing him from seeing his family and legal counsel.
Malami and his son were given N200 million each in bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja on February 27 for alleged offenses related to terrorism.
Since then, he has met the requirements of his bond and been released.
In an interview with DCL Hausa, released on Wednesday, Malami stated that he views his experiences as "God's will" and promised to forcefully defend himself against the accusations.
"I have been detained by the DSS, Kuje Prison, and the EFCC. He declared, "I will defend myself against the accusations, but I believe it is all God's will and I accept it."
"I have the constitutional right to be present during a search to supervise the examination of my property and to know precisely what is being searched for or seized.
Malami stated that he remains unwavering despite the experience. He said, "I have no regrets about what I did during my time as a minister."
