The Ondo State Police Command, on Monday, stated that it was criminals and not bandits that were arrested at Akure Airport on Sunday.

This was as a result of the earlier statement released by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Sunday that four suspected bandits were arrested around the perimeter fence of the airport.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Adebowale Lawal, during a ‘show of force’ exercise, clarified details of the incident.

He said, “Let me quickly debunk that issue of the arrest of four bandits. We don’t have bandits in Ondo State. We have criminals, not bandits.

“Two suspected logistics suppliers to all those criminals and kidnappers were arrested along the Eleyowo and Ilu Abo axis.

“The other one was arrested at Ilu-Abo, but that was not connected to the first two, and they are presently in police custody.

“So they were never arrested at the airport, contrary to the press statement made by the FAAN management staff. We carried out the operation. So they (FAAN) were not there. They were not arrested inside the airport.”
