The Senate has faulted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for the clash between it, the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency.

The Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu; and the National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (retd.), were particularly accused of not following due process in the operation that caused the clash.

The Senate had resolved to investigate the November 21, 2017, showdown between officials of the DSS and the EFCC in Abuja.

Barely one week after President Muhammadu Buhari blamed the rise in attacks by suspected herdsmen on foreign militia once trained by Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi, the United States military Monday expressed great concern over incessant attacks by foreign extremists in Nigeria and other West African countries.

Speaking at the African Land Forces Summit in Abuja, the Commanding General of the U.S. Army, Africa, Brig.-Gen. Eugene LeBoeuf, said insecurity and terrorism in Nigeria and other West African nations have been fuelled by the invasion of foreign extremists in the region.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs, Mr. Carl Risch, will be visiting Nigeria to review consular operations at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos.

The U.S. Department of State said Mr. Risch would journey to Nigeria, Morocco and Ethiopia from April 15 to 21.

A 53-year-old Italian Peter Nielsen, who allegedly murdered his Nigerian wife and singer, Zainab Ali-Nielsen, and their four-year-old daughter, Petra, at their home at Banana Island, Ikoyi Lagos, was on Wednesday remanded in Ikoyi Prisons on the orders of a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The Magistrate, Mrs K.B. Ayeye, who gave the ruling, said the accused should be reminded pending counsel from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai on Tuesday ordered the establishment of a standing court martial to try compromised officers who have exhibited political partisanship and breached the code of conduct of the Nigerian Army. The COAS gave the order while speaking at the Chief of Army Staff 1st Quarter Conference in Abuja Federal Capital Territory.
