Hundred of youth in Adamawa state youth have today took to the street, blocking the highway that leads from Girei to Yola, the state capital amidst cases of kidnapping that have continued to bother the community.
The youths, who are mostly from Girei town of Girei Local Government Area of the state, blocked the highway that rendered motorist on transit stranded.
The youth expressed their grievances, saying they will not leave the road until authorities like the Governor and the commissioner of police address them with the promise of ending the menace.
The spokesperson of the Girei youth, Alhaji Saidu Hamman-Girei, who is also the youth leader of Girei District revealed that recently, about 10 persons in the community lost their lives to kidnappers.
According to him, the suspect who were in connection with the case have been allegedly released by the police at their state force Headquarters.
He disclosed up to N60-N70 million had been paid as ransom to the kidnappers recently.
He disclosed recently, the youth mobilised and supported the security where they arrested 11 of the suspects with varying incriminating evidences, therefore they demand the commissioner of police to come and clear the air to them because the youth are tensed.
He revealed it took him a lot of effort to calm the youth yesterday from raising down the police station in Girei.
However, when the spokesperson of the police, DSP Suleiman Yahaya was contacted, he said the commissioner of police has dispatched the Assistant commissioner in charge of operation to address the situation.
Meanwhile, on the release of the suspect, he said he was not aware if any suspect was released, however eight of the kidnap suspects were facing trial at the court.
He said that four others had been transferred to Force Headquarters, Abuja for further investigations.
Suleiman assured the youth that the police were appreciative of their effort in fighting the crime and will not disappoint them.
