The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has stated that there is no new tax on vehicles, following a viral infographic alleging that a new vehicle tax has been imposed by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), effective July 1.

The 2026 Appropriations Bill, which authorizes an overall expenditure of ₦68.32 trillion for the current fiscal year, was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu. Additionally, he signed a different bill that extended the implementation period of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026. The budget allots ₦15.8 trillion for debt service and ₦4.799 trillion for statutory transfers. Additionally, it allocates ₦32.2 trillion for capital expenditures through the Development Fund and ₦15.4 trillion for ongoing expenses.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Nigeria's economy is expected to grow at a rate of 4.1% in 2026, making it one of the more resilient economies in the world. The forecast was included in the IMF's 2026 World Economic Outlook, "Global Economy in the Shadow of War," which was presented on Tuesday during the ongoing IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C.
