The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that 24 passengers were rescued, 14 bodies recovered, and 42 others remain missing after a boat mishap on the River Niger in Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State. The accident occurred around 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, when a boat carrying roughly 80 people capsized while traveling from Onugwa community to Olushi village.

 The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has declared October 1, 2025, as a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence. This declaration was made on behalf of the FGN by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has stated that thesis submission via the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) is now mandatory for mobilization into, or exemption from, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The Federal Government has appealed to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) to suspend its planned strike scheduled to begin on Monday over its disagreement with Dangote Refinery.
