The Federal Government (FG) has allocated the sum of N15 billion for the implementation of the Safe School Initiative for 2023. This was made known in Abuja on Wednesday by the National Coordinator of the Initiative, Halima Illiya Ibrahim, stating the Initiative is designed to improve the safety and security of students, staff and infrastructures of educational institutions in Nigeria.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE results can now be accessed alongside certificate for those who took the examination.
The Presidency has stated that Federal Universities in Nigerian remain tuition-free, adding that the hike in tuition fees by some universities as widely reported are “discretionary charges for hostel, accommodation, registration, laboratory and other charges”. This was made known on Wednesday in a statement issued by Dele Alake, the Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Amidst the free-for-all inflation that is rocking the Nigerian economy at present, University of lagos has announced a fee hike for both new and returning students to be effective September, 2023. The announcement was contained in statement released by the university authority yesterday to newsmen in Lagos. According to the statement, the fee hike will take effect on September 1st, 2023 for all categories of students.
The Federal Ministry of Education has raised the school fees of new entrants into Federal Government Colleges, known as Federal Unity Colleges from #45,000 to ₦100,000. Federal Government through the Office of the Director, Senior Secondary Education Department of the Federal Ministry of Education, gave the directive in a circular to all Principals of Federal Unity Colleges with the title, “Approved fees/ charges for Federal Unity Colleges (1st Term) for new students”.
The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Sonny Echono has revealed that about 137 students sponsored abroad for studies by the fund have absconded. He made this revelation on Tuesday when he appeared before the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the alleged mismanagement of N2.3tn tertiary education tax by TETFund.
