The House Representative has yesterday directed the National University Commission, NUC, to immediately suspend the implementation of tuition fee hike across the public universities nationwide. This follows the adoption of motion moved by member Hon. Aliyu Madaki (NNPP, Kano) at the plenary. It was learned that recently, there have been complain from parents across the country over a coordinated tuition fee hike by public universities across the country which is threatening school drop out by student occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy, as many families are financially facing difficulties.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) through its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin has restated its claims noting that the result of Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme was falsified, hence slamming her three years ban from sitting for the board's examination. After the conclusion of a high-level investigation by the Board, Mr. Benjamin disclosed in a statement early this morning insisting that the Enugu-born Anambra base pupil result was forged. He said, “In the meantime, the management of the Board, after considering the weighty infraction committed by Ms. Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, and in line with its established procedures, has withdrawn her 2023 UTME result and also barred her from sitting the Board’s examination for the next three years.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in a statement by its Head, of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin revealed on Sunday that the Board has withdrawn the result of one Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme, a candidate of the just released Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results over falsification of scores. The board said she scored 249 in the examination as against the 362 she has been parading and would be squarely dealt with for tempering its result. The board warned Nigerians to be careful of applicants parading high scores in the UTME.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has kicked against the Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), designed by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The Union said the curriculum is a threat to quality university education and an erosion of the powers of the university Senate in Nigerian universities.

Federal government has taken the decision to end funding of professional bodies/councils from its statutory budget as part of its measures to conserve more revenues for other expenses. The Presidential Committee on Salaries (PCS) took the decision at its 13th meeting that was recently held in Abuja. According to a circular that was signed by director-general of the Budget Office of the Federation, Ben Akabueze, the presidential council approved the discontinuation of budgetary allocation to the professional bodies/councils effective 1st January, 2024.

The Executive Secretary of the National University Commission, NUC, Professor Abubakar Abdulrasheed, has quit office as the NUC boss after tendering his resignation latter. The NUC boss made his decision known today at the commission headquarters after he just approved the license for the kogi state University, Kabba, Kogi state.
