The National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO) has released its year 2020 Secondary School Examination it conducted in May/June. Announcing the result at the NECO Headquarters in Minna, Niger state, the Registrar, Prof. Godswill Obioma, of the Exam body disclosed that the result has about 2% margin of students with 5-credit and above were observed when compared to the previous year result.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has made it public on Wednesday that online classes in the school will resume on January 25, 2021. The Head of the Media Unit of the university Mrs. Olufadeke Akinleye, while speaking on the matter said the decision was due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The new resumption date is contained in the revised academic calendar for the first semester of the 2019/2020 academic session released by the university. Lectures would end March 5 ahead of first Semester examination scheduled to begin March 15. The examination scheduled to hold online would last until April 1 when the semester is scheduled to end.

Following the long strike by the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian University (ASUU), The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on ASUU to as a matter of national importance to resume academic activities as directed by the Federal Government.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, on Tuesday, said it cannot guarantee social distancing in crowded classes and congested hostels. The union also said the government was yet to put safety measures in place at learning centers amid the second wave of the pandemic.

The National University Commission (NUC) has directed all Nigerian Universities through the Vice-Chancellors to resume academic activities latest by January 18, 2021. The announcement was in compliance with the directive from the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 who earlier directed the closure of the public places after the second wave of the pandemic resurfaced.

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) has on Monday commenced a 14-day warning strike action with effect from January 4, 2021, following alleged neglect of their demands by the Federal Government. The strike directive was conveyed in a release signed by the Acting National Secretary of SSANIP, Comrade Emmanuel Enyiegor in Calabar, Cross River State. The association also demands the government to constitute Governing Councils in Federal and State Polytechnics. The release reads “This is to bring to the attention of all the members that the General Executive Council had on December 17, 2020, approved the commencement of 14-day warning strike with effect from January 4.
