The Federal Executive Council has approved the sum of N2.9 billion for the printing of Exam for the upcoming Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE), common entrance, and basic education exams among others. The Minister of education, Mr. Adamu Adamu disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after the federal executive council meeting which was held at the council chambers in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Federal Government has approved the release of N30 billion earned academic allowance to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU). The money is part of the Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) to the union. The Government will pay the money in tranches between May 2021 and January 2022. As part of the concession to end the seven-month strike, the government also promised to spend N20bn on the revitalisation of the education sector. These agreements were arrive at during the meeting between the Federal Government and the academic staff union leadership on Thursday. At the yesterday’s meeting, the body of lecturers, insisted that the government should pay their outstanding salaries through GIFMIS before full implementation of University Transparency and Accountability Solution, UTAS, but the government insisted on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS.

The Academic Staff Union of the Nigerian Universities (ASUU) has yesterday chides the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajuba, that it is him that needs to resign and go back to the farm instead. The ASUU Chairman, University of Ibadan Chapter, Prof. Ayo Akinwole stated this in a statement while reacting to the Minister's remarks on criticizing the ASUU for being too adamant in negotiation with the government. The Minister had on Monday while attending the interview advised ASUU that instead of being unyielding to their employer's terms and condition of service, he advised them to resign and go back to farm instead as the country at this time need more farmers than professors.

Teachers across the country were thrown into merriment yesterday after President Muhammadu Buhari announced the approval of a new special salary scale for the educators. The education minister, Adamu Adamu, who represented President Buhari, at the commemoration of the 2020 World Teachers Day on October 5, in Abuja, during which the approval was made said the implementation of the new salary scheme is to encourage teachers in delivering better service. Mr. President also increased the number of years of service for the teachers from 35 to 40. During the event themed "Teachers: leading in crisis, reimagining the future" the president said teachers have the power to shape and reshape the lives of young people and enhance their potential.

The Federal Government has declared full reopening of all schools in Nigeria by October, 12. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu made the announcement on Friday in Abuja. He also directed all Federal Colleges also known as Unity schools, to reopen on same October 12. Adamu said State Governments and private school owners are at liberty to open based on COVID-19 protocols developed for safe reopening of schools.

The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian University (ASUU) has insisted that the Federal Government must adopt the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) as a condition to end the six months of industrial action.
