The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has on Wednesday approved the bill proposing the extension for the retirement age of Nigerian teachers from 60 to 65 years. Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu made the disclosure while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the FEC meeting, which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The approved bill; Harmonized Retirement Age for Teachers Bill, 2021 is to be sent to the National Assembly for consideration and subsequent approval. According to the bill, the teaching profession in the country will be enhanced for better education

The National Youth Service Corps Scheme (NYSC) has listed conditions that must be met by 2020 Batch “B” Stream II Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) before they can be admitted into Orientation Camp. According to NYSC, corps members must have a clearance certificate showing that they are COVID-19 negative.NYSC stated this in its “Safety protocols” issued ahead of the commencement of the 2020 Batch “B” Stream II Orientation Course on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

The Federal Government has on Thursday reaffirmed the January 18 school resumption date, clarifying the uncertainty over the proposed date. Mr. Adamu Adamu, Federal Minister of Education confirmed this during the daily press briefing by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in Abuja, saying the federal government’s decision to resume schools by Monday, however, the government may review the resumption date if the second wave of the pandemic persists. He said, “It (January 18 date of school reopening) is not sacrosanct. When we decided on that date, it was just a target towards what we were working on.

The National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO) has released its year 2020 Secondary School Examination it conducted in May/June. Announcing the result at the NECO Headquarters in Minna, Niger state, the Registrar, Prof. Godswill Obioma, of the Exam body disclosed that the result has about 2% margin of students with 5-credit and above were observed when compared to the previous year result.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has made it public on Wednesday that online classes in the school will resume on January 25, 2021. The Head of the Media Unit of the university Mrs. Olufadeke Akinleye, while speaking on the matter said the decision was due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The new resumption date is contained in the revised academic calendar for the first semester of the 2019/2020 academic session released by the university. Lectures would end March 5 ahead of first Semester examination scheduled to begin March 15. The examination scheduled to hold online would last until April 1 when the semester is scheduled to end.

Following the long strike by the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian University (ASUU), The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on ASUU to as a matter of national importance to resume academic activities as directed by the Federal Government.
