The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has revealed it has secured a pre-qualification approval for the agency’s Yaba laboratory, Lagos State, as a Central Drug Control Laboratory, CDCL, in Nigeria. The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, made this known during a news conference in Abuja on today Thursday. According to her, the World Health Organisation, WHO had recently Okayed its CDCL located in Lagos for its onwards testing of drugs.

President Bola Tinubu has expressed worry over the mass exodus of health workers who are leaving the country in search of greener pastures elsewhere around the world blaming the country policies for the exile. Special Adviser to president Tinubu on Public Health Matters, Salma Anas, expressed worry on behalf of the president today during the 2023 annual conference of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists in Abuja, themed ‘Universal health coverage: The medical laboratories priority in Nigeria.’

President of the Christian Council of Nigeria, CCN, Rev. Dr David Onuoha, has called on the federal government to make a law that will criminalize the stigmatization of persons living with HIV?AIDS in Nigeria. Onuoha, an Anglican Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, express his deepest concerned on the plight of the number of young people living with HIV and the impact of stigma on their lives they receive everyday of their interaction.

The Ogun state Government said about 12 lives were lost to cholera outbreak in the state in the last one month.
The state Ministry of Health issued an alert first on September 17th, 2023 when the first outbreak was recorded in Ijebu North local Government Area of the state. According to the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Corker, the disease has since spread in Abeokuta North LGA with a recorded incidents of about 217 in Ijebu north LGA alone.

The United Nation Children Endowment Fund, UNICEF said plan by the Nigerian authority to end open defecation by year 2025 might not be possible. The organisation said it would take Nigeria until 2046 before it could end the said target if it follow the roadmap strictly. The UNICEF Water Sanitation and hygiene (WASH) specialist at its Zonal office in Lagos, Monday Johnson disclosed this in Ibadan yesterday during the agency 2-days program on media dialogue with the southwest journalist in the country.

The Federal Government has directed all Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors in Federal Tertiary Hospitals to go ahead and implement the no-work no-pay policy against the striking medical resident Doctors.
The directive also said the CMDs should deploy an attendance register for all resident doctors to sign in and out of the hospital to serve evidence against those who refuse to come out for duty for further sanction. It was learned that the minister of Health gave the directive through a letter emanated from the Federal Ministry of Health addressed to all CMDs yesterday conveying the message.
