The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Monday, confirmed a case of anthrax in the country. The Chief Veterinary Officer of the Ministry, Dr. Columba T. Vakuru, said that animals showing signs of a possible case of anthrax on a farm in Suleja, Niger State were reported to the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria on July 14, 2023.
The Association of Community Pharmacists in Nigeria has called for ethical distribution of drugs in the country to ward off challenges to human health. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the ACPN Chairman, Wale Oladigbolu and Secretary, Ambrose Ezeh, stating that non-production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients in Nigeria has poses security challenges to the health sector.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has announced the outbreak of Diptheria disease in Abuja FCT and its environs after confirming a test result positive. The FCT Director of Public Health Department, The FCT Director, Public Health Department, Dr. Sadiq Abdulrahman, declared the outbreak, to newsmen during a conference yesterday Monday, 3rd July, 2023 in Abuja.
A Nigerian obstetrician and gynaecologist, Professor Leke Badmos, who is based in Toronto, Canada has called on the federal government to let Nigerians who are ambitious and who possesses the technical requisite to migrate abroad and widen their horizon. New research released recently has predicted that the number of people living with diabetes Miletus disease worldwide would double to 1.3 billion by the year 2050 driven by structural racism and increasing inequality between countries. According to the comprehensive analysis conducted, every country on planet will experience surge in numbers of patient living with the disease by the end of year 2050. Currently, about 529 million people across the globe are living with the terminal ailment, which is considered to be a major cause of death especially amongst black race and lots of disability. Explaining further by the Lancet Journal as published the report added that out all the patients, 95% of them are suffering from the type 2 diabetes and it is expected to surge to 1.3billion people in less than three decades to come. Individuals who are naturally overweight considered as a ‘High Body Mass Index’ are mostly the first casualty of the dreaded disease and those that ends up living with disability.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has concluded investigation into traces of mytheylene Oxide or its metabolite presence in the domestic produced noodles and its seasonings are very safe for human consumption. The investigation was as a result of news that Indomie Instant Noodles ‘Special Chicken Flavor’ were recalled by the Ministries of Health in Malaysia and Taiwan on account of the alleged presence of ethylene oxide, a compound associated with an increased risk of cancer. NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Christainah Adeyeye made this known during a briefing of newsmen in Lagos today. According to her, in all her investigation, ethylene oxide or its derivative were not found in all the instant noodles and its seasonings being produced in Nigeria as alleges by others and therefore, all Nigerian made noodles are safe for human consumption.
