The Ministry of Health has revealed that a fresh outbreak of cholera have killed up to four persons while 38 others have been infected in Shege Word, Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

According to Public Relations Officer, state Ministry of Health, Mr. Musa Abdullahi, some of the affected victims are currently stable and responding to treatment.

The state commissioner of Health, Dr. Daniel Iya, who was represented by the state Director of Public Health, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu-Alhassan made donation of relevant drugs to the Shege community. He said the donation was part of the state government's ongoing intervention to halt further spread of the disease.

A sickle-cell NGO has advised sickle-cell patients to keep warm and avoid extreme temperature in the management of sickle-cell during harmattan, as cold and extreme temperatures could worsen health condition and trigger painful event.

Mr Adesina Adetunbosun, Founder of Babajide Olowodola Foundation, a sickle-cell NGO, gave the advice in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.

Adetunbosun stated that extreme temperatures such as dry, cold and dusty winds associated with harmattan season affects sickle cell anaemia patients thereby triggering crises in them.

In a bid to tackle the menace of drug abuse in the country, the President of the Senate Dr. Bukola Saraki has promised to go after importers and distributors of drugs.

The Dr Saraki revealed this even as the Senate begins a roundtable in Kano with state governments, local governments, traditional rulers, the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria and NGOs, to tackle the menace.

He expressed grave worry in series of tweets on his twitter handle @BukolaSaraki over the current spate of drug abuse prevalent in almost all the states of the country, adding that even nursing mothers were held by the clutches of drugs and other substances.

President of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Prof Mike Ogirima, has expressed worry over the spate of migration of medical doctors from Nigeria to other countries.

Ogirima revealed that over 600 doctors had left the country between 2016 and 2017 despite Nigeria a poor doctor: patient ratio of 1:4000 populations.

At least half of the world’s population cannot obtain essential health services, according to a new report by the World Health Organisation and World Bank. And each year, large numbers of households are being pushed into poverty because they must pay for health care out of their own pockets, the report said. Currently, 800 million people spend at least 10 percent of their household budgets on health expenses for themselves, a sick child or another family member.

A research by psychologists have shown that the rated strength of a male body accounts for a full 70 per cent of the variance in attractiveness. A strong upper body, wide shoulders, being physically fit make men attractive to women.

The researchers tested how important physical strength is to men's bodily attractiveness by showing women pictures of men's bodies and asking them how attractive they were.

The results, which was published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, showed that it was possible to almost perfectly predict how attractive a man's body is from three factors: how physically strong he looks, how tall he is, and how lean he is.
