Diabetes and high BMI (a BMI over 25 kg/m2) were the cause of 5.6% of new cancer cases worldwide in 2012 – equivalent to 792600 cases, according to the first study to quantify the proportion of cancers attributable to diabetes and high BMI published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology journal.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), in a report released on November 28, an estimated 1 in 10 medical products circulating in low and middle income countries are either substandard or falsified. Many of these substandard drugs make their way to Africa.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) disclosed on Monday that less than 10 per cent of particularly youths in Kaduna State knew their HIV status.
The HIV and AIDS Specialist, UNICEF, Kaduna, Dr Idris Baba, made the disclosure in Kaduna at the 2017 World AIDS Day, organised by the Kaduna State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KADSACA).
