The Federal Government has assured Nigerians to remain calm in the midst of the corona Virus outbreak that causes pandemonium in Lagos state, saying, the government has a well-equipped facility to detect and handle cases of the dreaded virus.
The Minister of Information and culture, Lai Mohammed stated this during a press briefing on the preparedness of the Federal government to contain the dreaded virus as it first case was confirmed in Lagos state.
The Minister appealed to Nigerians to stop panicking, saying in times like this peddler of fake news will be on top of their game.
Therefore Nigerians should relax and not to fall for such tricks of fake news and disinformation.
He said “Fortunately, Facebook is working with us in this regard.
They have asked Nigerians to report any false or misleading report on Facebook and Instagram pages so they can immediately bring them down”
According to Mohammed, the Facebook have also assured the government of Nigeria that they are taking pre-emptive measures to screen harmful or falsehood concerning the myth and fact about the disease and the public health in Nigeria 24/7.
He said all Nigerians require to do is to raise alarm on any misleading information about the epidemic and Facebook will do the needful.
The Minister further stated that all media houses of the Federal Ministry of Information and culture such as NTA, FRCN, NAN, VON and NOA have been directed to intensify sensitization and enlightenment campaign to equip Nigerians with the necessary information they need to know.
