Fresh 684 COVID-19 cases have been recorded in 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory on Friday, as revealed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, data.
The latest figure has brought the total number of confirmed cases to 23,298. While patients discharged summed up to 8,253. 554 deaths were recorded.
Lagos had the highest number at 259, Oyo had 76, and Katsina recorded 69. Delta and Rivers had 46, Ogun came down with 23 cases, Edo had 22, Osun 22, and Ebonyi 21.
FCT recorded 20 cases, Kaduna had 16, Ondo 10, Imo 9, and Abia, 9. Gombe had 5, Plateau 4, Bauchi 4, Ekiti 2 and Anambra 1.
Following the persistent increase in the number of confirmed cases that seem not to abate Lagos and Osun state governments are threatening fresh lockdowns if the people failed to abide by government protocols including observing social distancing wearing of face mask particularly in public places.
Also, in Oyo state, many parents and teachers have expressed serious concerns over the state government's decision to reopen schools on July 6, this year, amidst rising incidences of COVID-19 cases in the state and in the country. During the week, three Commissioners in the state and a number of medical experts tested positive for the virus.
The parents are in a dilemma and are stressing that the government's decision to re-open the schools is insensitive and premature.
Hustling and bustling in the state in locations including major markets remained unchecked.
