The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says it has recorded an additional 490 fresh cases of coronavirus in the country, bringing a toll to 24,567. Accordingly, seven persons lost their lives to the pandemic on Sunday, bringing the number of deaths by the virus to 565 in the country. Though there was a decline in the number of cases reported on Sunday which is 490 when compared with the previous day Saturday (770).
The health agency through its official twitter handle revealed on Sunday that the new cases were reported from 20 states of the federation. The states reported include; FCT, Lagos, Plateau, Ogun, Delta, Ebonyi, Kastina, Imo, Ondo, Adamawa, Osun, Bayelsa, Kogi, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Kano, Enugu, Edo and Rivers States. All the reporting states have already existing cases at least one.
Accordingly, all the 35 states across the federation have reported at least a case with the exception of Cross-River state which has not reported any case of the coronavirus.
In the last week, following the increased testing capacity by the health agency, the number of cases of the coronavirus has been on the increase including the number of deaths.
As of yesterday, the number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the country is 24,567 with 9,007 persons have been discharged, while 565 were recorded dead from the 35 states and the FCT, the NCDC stated.
The 490 new confirmed cases were reported from 21 states of Lagos – 118, Delta – 84, Ebonyi – 68, FCT – 56, Plateau – 39, Edo – 29, Kastina – 21, Imo – 13, Ondo – 12, Adamawa – 11, Osun – 8, Ogun – 8, Rivers – 6, Kano – 5, Enugu – 3, Bauchi – 3, Akwa Ibom – 3, Kogi – 1, Oyo – 1, and Bayelsa – 1.
Since the outbreak of the dreaded virus in February in Nigeria, NCDC said the agency has tested 130,164 samples.
A breakdown of the 24,567 confirmed cases indicates as follows; Lagos State has so far reported 10,144 cases, followed by FCT – 1,792, Oyo – 1, 306, Kano – 1, 200, Rivers – 1, 056, Edo – 962, Delta – 912, Ogun –782, Kaduna – 703, Katsina – 549, Bauchi – 500, Gombe – 492, Borno – 486, Ebonyi – 395, Plateau – 337, Jigawa – 317, Imo – 303, Abia – 302, Enugu – 261, Ondo – 244, Kwara – 217, Nasarawa – 206, Bayelsa – 185, Sokoto – 151, Osun – 116, Akwa Ibom – 86, Adamawa – 84, Niger – 84, Kebbi – 76, Zamfara – 76, Anambra – 71, Yobe – 59, Benue – 47, Ekiti – 43, Taraba!- 19 and Kogi – 4.
