About 6,382 athletes and officials have been penciled to converge in Asaba, Delta state capital for the 9th edition of the National Youth Games, scheduled to hold from August 29 to September 6. With participants drawn from all 36 states of the federation, the game was organised by the National Sports Commission and is aim to promote grassroots sports and unleash the next generation of Nigerian athletes champions. The figure was confirmed following the completion of the Digital Registration Management (DRM) process.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports, the NYG has grown into a major sporting event, fostering unity and offering young talents a platform to shine on the national stage.
The organizing officials disclosed that this year’s edition will feature 37 sporting events, promising a showcase new skills, talents, teamwork, and determination across multiple disciplines.
The defending champions, Team Delta, will be looking forward to keeping to their crown but will have to face fierce competition from equally ambitious contingents at the 2025 edition.
According to the NSC, the Games remain “a celebration of talent, resilience, and national unity,” with nine days of thrilling action expected to produce the country’s future stars. NAN
