Bayelsa and Kaduna States have been selected to host the National Sports Festival in 2028 and 2030, respectively—marking Bayelsa’s first time as host and Kaduna’s third.
The confirmation was announced by the Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, stating that both States have demonstrated strong commitment and preparedness to organize the country’s top multi-sport event.

He applauded President Bola Tinubu’s administration for prioritizing sports development, saying this has made the event more interesting and motivated more states to indicate interest in hosting the festival.
Olopade added that the goal of the Renewed Hope Initiative for the Nigerian Sports Economy is to modernize the festival and enhance its structure, organization, and overall quality.
He recalled that the 2025 edition in Ogun State was widely regarded as the best, but emphasized that the commission aims to deliver even higher standards in the upcoming festivals scheduled for Enugu (2026), Bayelsa (2028), and Kaduna (2030).
