The head coach of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim, has been sacked by the club, fourteen months after he was appointed.
According to a statement by the club, which reads in part, “With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change.
“This will give the team the best opportunity for the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.”
Manchester United also announced that a former player of the team and academy coach, Darren Fletcher, is expected to train the team on an interim basis.
The English Premier League football team brought Amorim from Sporting Clube de Portugal in November 2024, and the 40-year-old led the team to their UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao in May 2025.
