Following political and logistical complications, the Football governing body FIFA has cancelled plans to broaden the world cup teams to a 48-nation team from 32 teams for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
FIFA disclosed this yesterday in a statement saying the decision was made after thorough consultation with stakeholders. However, the 2026 World Cup scheduled to hold in the United States, Canada and Mexico would feature the 48-nation team.
Furthermore, the United Arab Emirate, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt cut political, trade and transport ties with Qatar in 2017 after Qatar was accused of supporting terrorism.
