Remo Stars Football Club (RSFC) was held to a 0-0 draw by Nasarawa United on home turf, thereby failing to extend their lead at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), in another game, Enyimba football club suffered its first-ever defeat of the Finidi George era.
Weeks after the departure of ex-Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede, the Ikenne-Remo based club having come from a 3-0 victory over Heartland FC, were held to a 0-0 draw by Nasarawa United, making it the first game of the season RSFC were unable to find the back of the net.
The result sees the Sky Blue Stars remain top of the league going into the new year with 7 points ahead of Akwa United and Rivers United who are equal on points but adrift with goal difference.
Enyimba were in second place before Wednesday, after two wins from two games, but they have now dropped into fifth place after going down to a 1-0 defeat to Rivers United and have now moved below Kwara United in 4th. Enyimba defeat was the teams first defeat under Finidi and the first of the season.
Champions Akwa United moved to second position after a hard-earned 1-0 win against Gombe United. MFM recorded their first win of the season courtesy of a 1-0 win against Plateau United at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
