The Federal Government, through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has filed new 16-count charges of fraud against former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello in an FCT High Court. This move follows Bello's absence at a previous Federal High Court session where he faced allegations of fraud amounting to ₦80.2 billion.
A Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed the arraignment of former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello until October 30, 2024. The decision, made by Justice Emeka Nwite, follows Bello's appeal to the Supreme Court aimed at overturning an arrest warrant issued against him by the trial court on April 17.

Former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has finally honoured invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to his media office, which announced the development in a statement on Wednesday, the decision was made after consultations with his family, legal team and political allies. In April, the EFCC had declared Bello wanted after he reportedly shunned a series of invitations and resisted arrest.
EFCC officials had stormed Bello’s residence in Abuja to arrest him, but there was a stalemate.
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has declared 281 inmates missing from the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State during the recent flood as a result of the collapse of the Alau Dam. This was made known on Sunday in a statement issued by the Spokesperson of NCoS, Umar Abubakar, adding that the Service has the details of the escaped inmates including their biometrics, which is being made available to the public.
Scores of bandits have been killed in a joint operation between the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) in Bassa, Niger State. The bandits were killed during a failed invasion of the security forces base at Bassa in Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.
