The Adamawa/Taraba Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized 85 200-litre drums of petrol being illegally conveyed to the Republic of Cameroon. The command also seized 795 25-litre jerry cans of the same product found concealed on a bush path at the Sahuda section of the Nigeria-Cameroon border. The Customs Area controller of the Adamawa/Taraba Area Command, Comptroller Garba Bashir who called a news briefing Friday at the area command headquarters of the NCS in Yola, disclosed that a Carina E with a hidden compartment loaded with petrol was intercepted along the Girei-Wuro Boki axis of Adamawa State. According to him, the foregoing seizures were made from the 29th of last month to date. He added that within the past six weeks in all, the Area Command has recorded 17 cases of seizure of various items with an aggregate duty value of N36.9 million.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called on INTERPOL in three North African Maghreb countries of Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia, to watch-list former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
It was further learnt that the anti graft after getting a credible intelligence about what Bello was planning came up with the decision.

The Senate has issued query into the submerged substandard Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), petrol, and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), diesel into the Nigerian market. Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong observed that a report revealed that 12 diesel cargoes conveying a total of 660 kilotons of diesel were exported by refineries to offshore Lome, Togo for further distribution to West African markets, mainly Nigeria; but below the Nigerian standard in terms of flash and Sulphur levels.

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has shortlisted 98 lawyers from a pool of applicants seeking the conferment of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank for 2024. The shortlisted applicants will now proceed to the second stage of the selection process, which includes interviews and reviews of petitions that members of the public may send regarding them. The candidates include the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulkarim Kana, and former national officers of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) – Monday Ubani, Kunle Edun, and Rapulu Nduka. The list also includes the Legal Adviser of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wendy Kuku, an Abuja-based human rights lawyer, Terkaa Aondo, and NBA Bwari branch chairman, Paul Daudu.

A former Chairman of the Special Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public, Property, Okoi Obono-Obla, has alleged that the loot recovered by his panel under former President Muhammadu Buhari was returned to the looters. He added that the Buhari administration failed to fight corruption, supposedly the bedrock of people’s trust in him. Obono-Obla, who was appointed a presidential aide by Buhari, made the allegation on Saturday while speaking on the Mic On Podcast. Special Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public was an independent investigative panel set up by Buhari to recover stolen property and assets belonging to the country.

The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division on Friday, June 28, affirmed the judgement of a Lagos State High Court, which sentenced Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, popularly called Baba Ijesha to five years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old minor. The appellate court in its lead judgement delivered by Justice Folashade Ojo who presided over the case found the Appellant, Baba Ijesha guilty on counts 4 and 5, where he was accused of indecently touching a minor and sexually assaulting her. Other panel members, Justice Abdullahi Bayero and Justice Paul Bassi aligned themselves with the lead judgement.
