The Kano High Court has sentenced a 47 year old Chinese national, Frank Geng-Quangrong to death by hanging, over the murder of his Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Sani. The presiding judge, Justice Sanusi Ado-Ma’ aji who delivered the judgment on Tuesday stated that the defendant’s testimony was inconsistent, thereby found him guilty, he however recommended mercy on behalf of the defendant to be considered by the Kano State governor.

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has filed criminal charges against MTN Nigeria Communications Ltd. and four others over alleged copyright infringement. The charge with number FHC/ABJ/CR/111/2024 filed in the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court was obtained by journalists on Monday. The other four defendants in the case are Karl Toriola, the chief executive officer of MTN Nigeria; Nkeakam Abhulimen, Fun Mobile Ltd.; and Yahaya Maibe.
In the three-count charge, NCC alleged that the defendants, between 2010 and 2017, “offered for sale, sold and traded for business’’, infringed the musical works of an artiste, Maleke Idowu Moye, without his consent and authorization.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has declared one of the leaders of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Simon Ekpa, and several others wanted. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered that Bello Bodejo, the leader of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore group, be remanded in the custody of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), from where he was brought to court. This order for his remand was read on Friday before Justice Inyang Ekwo, who adjourned the case till May 27 for the commencement of trial. Recall that Bodejo was arrested on January 23, 2024 at his organization’s office in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State regarding the unveiling of an unlawful vigilante group.
The Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has intensify call for the immediate creation of state police, saying the current vigilantes being used are ill-equipped to face bandits who carry sophisticated weapons in perpetrating their crime. The call followed the incessant attack that has escalated the level of insecurity in the state following the kidnapping of over 280 students in the Kuriga area of the state. As well as, 87 persons reportedly abducted last Sunday in Kajuru Local Government Area, both incidents happened within a two week.
